As part of the implementation of the Association of Mediterranean Ombudsmen’s Action Plan in the field of training, and within the framework of the sessions programmed following the Athens decision adopted at the third meeting of the AOM in December 2009, the sixth training session was held on 28, 29 and 30 October 2015 in Rabat.
Organized in cooperation with the Institution of the Ombudsman of the Kingdom of Morocco, the collaborators of the Ombudsman members of the Association were trained on the theme « Ombudsmen and the Challenges of New Information Technologies ».
35 participants from the member institutions of the Association, from Jordan, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, France, Slovenia, Spain, Malta and Morocco, benefited from this session, in addition to two other participants representing the Central Forum for the Prevention of Corruption and an expert from the Institution of the European Ombudsman. The latter animated her presentation through Skype.
Five modules were included in the agenda, namely:
- Module 1: “Dematerialization of records”;
- Module 2: “Online referrals”;
- Module 3: “Management of the quality of services”;
- Module 4: “The Communication of institutions (portals, websites, newsletters)”;
- Module 5: “The Communication of institutions (social media)”.
At the closing session, proposals and some experiences of the Ombudsmen were discussed. The Maltese Ombudsman’s rigour, regarding his relationship with the social media was, on that occasion, commended. Conclusion was then made that, the use of social media does not require an abundance in terms of human resources, but rather requires targeted strategies.
